About Us
After many years of working in association as individual businesses, in 2007 we decided to create a shared focus and a new company, Irving Allan. We are committed to realising the full potential of our successful joint history, using our differences as complementary strengths to create a vibrant business that provides exceptional benefit to changing organisations.
Julie Allan (above, right) is a chartered occupational psychologist, organisational consultant and coach. She works with leaders, talented individuals and groups who need and want to engage with change - personally and organisationally. She also provides supervision or shadow consultancy for coaches and consultants who work independently or who are within client organisations.
With a prior career in journalism and publishing, including several roles for a flagship BBC magazine, Julie brings first-hand experience of working in time-pressured, quality-oriented and creative environments. She complements this with significant psychological training and practice, and profit and not-for-profit experience in sectors including manufacturing, law, financial services, social services and logistics. Her ongoing attention to leading edge practices has included contributing to the complexity programme at the London School of Economics and speaking at CASS Business School.
Julie has first and higher degrees from the Universities of Stirling and Nottingham. She is appreciated by clients for her intellectual and practical curiosity, her pragmatic impact and her capacity to take a whole-system approach to developing individuals and organisations. An author of books on organisational development and coaching, Julie is currently researching corporate wisdom. She says, 'for me, creating a new focus on that oldest of themes, change, and doing so in a way that moves others to a new view and new capability, is a very challenging and satisfying occupation for the times in which we live.'
Kirstin Irving (above, left) is a chartered occupational psychologist, trainer, facilitator and consultant. Having graduated with a first class psychology degree from the University of St. Andrews and a Masters degree from the University of Nottingham, she worked for some time as a researcher in academia. She established her first consultancy, Irving & Irving Associates, in 1994 and soon built an outstanding personal reputation for listening to what is needed, providing high-value, workable solutions and engaging with clients as a true partner.
Kirstin has worked successfully across Europe and in North America, primarily in the automotive, construction, financial services, IT and utilities sectors. Her client groups include senior level sponsors, their change agent teams and people at all levels who are impacted by change. She has supported the implementation of lean manufacturing, the successful integration of newly merged companies, the introduction of a wide range of new technologies, work processes and practices, many organisation restructures and the cultural alignment of organisations to new or emerging business directions.
Kirstin is valued by clients for her pragmatism and enthusiasm, and her ability to frame complex situations and apparently intractable problems in a way that enables people to work successfully with them. Says Kirstin, 'helping people and organisations effectively manage change is among the most rewarding work I do. I’m excited to be bringing my Change work to Irving Allan and look forward to exploring new territories as well as applying what we already know to be of real value'.
